How to manage course eventsSubmitted by admin on Thu, 29/11/2007 - 11:04.
First, you need to be logged in. Next go to the relevant state page via the Locations & Dates menu. There will be two lists at the bottom of the page (each will have a box around them). The first is titles "Pages that are children of this page". These are events that arealready associated with the state. If you want to edit an existing event you can click on the link listed here. The second list, title "Link Operations" lets you create new linked events (or remove existing ones and attach to an exitsing event which hasn't been attached properly). Creating an event At the top of this second list is a link title "Create new Event". Click this link. A new page will be displayed for the event. You can now enter the details for the course as per the following standards. Enter the start and end date for the First Day of the course, including times if known. If dates aren't known make a best guess! We only enter details for the first day to limit the impact on the calendar view. We do NOT use the repeating events since it creates too many items in the above lists. We don't put the actual end date of the course in, becuase then the course will show up on every day in the calendar view between the start and end dates! Enter a Title - usually Course (Perspectives or Advanced Perspectives) suburb, starting month and year so that it can be easily recognised in lists. In the body enter details about the course, including location, day of week, time, date starting (and ending if known, the coordinator and an email address to contact. Once all is correct, go to the bottom of the page and click Submit. The new course event wll have been entered, and you will be now viewing it. (note we are in View mode, not Edit mode). Now we need to include some geographic location information so that it will appear on mays and so people can search by post code etc. You will see a heading on the page "Location". Below that should be a link "Add another location". (This appears in View mode but not Edit mode. This is a bug!) Click on this link and a box will expand so that you can enter this information. Locatio Name: Copy the Title of the event (or re-enter it) into the Location Name field. Street: If you know the street address enter it, or leave it blank. Additional: Ignore this. City: Enter the suburb here. This is required. State: Select the state from the menu. Postal Code: Enter the Postcode. You may need to look up the post code at www.auspost.com.au if you don't know it. Latitude & Longitude: Leave these blank. Once you have added the location the system will work out an appropriate setting. Click the "Add Location" button. The database will be updated and the course event redisplayed with a map on the right. If you supplied a street address it should show that. If you supplied only a suburb and postcode then it will be the centre of that region. The map will be very tightly zoomed, (which is actually a bit unhelpful!).
